WHY YOU NEED THIS PROGRAM.

Carroll County and the state of Georgia face significant challenges that affect the well-being of our youth, including teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and other risk behaviors that impact their future success. Establishing a comprehensive prevention program focused on sexual risk avoidance and education is critical for several reasons:

Addressing Immediate Needs

Many of our youth face complex life circumstances—such as poverty, family instability, or limited access to healthcare—that increase their vulnerability to unintended pregnancies and risky sexual behavior. A targeted program would provide these young people with the tools, information, and support they need to make healthy decisions now.

Promoting Long-Term Impact

Evidence shows that teen pregnancy prevention programs reduce dropout rates, improve economic outcomes, and decrease healthcare burdens. A sustainable program that aligns with Georgia's public health priorities would not only serve today’s youth but also foster healthier communities in the future.

Reducing Public Costs and Improving Health Outcomes

Teenage pregnancies place a financial strain on public resources, from increased healthcare costs to higher demand for social services. We can reduce these costs by proactively addressing this issue while ensuring better outcomes for individuals and families.

Empowering At-Risk Youth

Education rooted in sexual risk avoidance helps young people develop life skills, build self-esteem, and set goals. This program would empower youth to make positive choices, avoid risky behaviors, and break cycles of poverty and instability.
